The Real Essence Of Christmas

Merry Christmas, everyone. In just two days, we will be celebrating the coming of Jesus once again. Families will gather at one table again. Friends will reunite. Christmas parties are everywhere. Unlimited chit-chats from people who haven't seen each other for quite a while. The exchanging of gifts. Christmas is probably the busiest day of the year for some people. While for some, they treat Christmas as a normal day.

We all have different approaches when it comes to celebrating Christmas. Others spend it alone by choice, while others are alone because the circumstances don't allow them to spend it with their loved ones. There are people who will be celebrating Christmas this year unlike any other Christmas. Perhaps some just had welcome a new family member. So they will be celebrating Christmas a lot more special with their new bundle of joy. Or it's their first Christmas to spend in their new home. On the other hand, there are some who will be welcoming Christmas in a sorrowful way. Because it's their first Christmas celebration without their loved ones.

Whatever way we are going to spend Christmas, know that it's not about us. We have Christmas Day because we are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas isn't about giving or receiving gifts. It's not about the amount of gifts. It's not about how much or how little food we have on our table. It is a day to give glory to God, although we should be doing that every day, for giving us His only begotten son. It is also a day to celebrate Mama Mary's giving birth to Jesus Christ.

You see, that special day isn't about us. But we are the ones benefiting from it. Some of us are going to receive gifts. Some of us are going to eat a scrumptious Noche Buena. We get to spend it with the people we love. Christmas Day is an opportunity for some people to go on vacation. And some of us are not fortunate enough to experience those things.

Therefore, the real essence of Christmas is gratitude. Being grateful for all that we have. The food on our table and the people—including our pets—that we share it with. Being grateful for everything that happens to us, the good and the bad. Even though we experience some unfortunate circumstances, we still have a reason to celebrate. We still have a lot to be thankful for. May we not overlook what we have because we only tend to see what is missing in our lives. May we never take for granted the presence of our loved ones just because we think that we have our whole lifetime to spend with them.

Christmas season is about celebration. It is a happy occasion. It is a happy gathering. May we all spend this special day in the calmest and most relaxed way possible. Forget the rush. Forget the pressure. This only happens once every 365 days. Let us try to just be present in the moment and enjoy the day.

Have a meaningful Christmas, everyone. Don't forget to be grateful for all the blessings that you continue to receive.

au revoir. 😊
