‎A Letter To My Younger Self

Dear You,

I just want you to know that your crush having crush with your best friend wouldn't be the most heartbreaking thing you're gonna experience. There are still tons of unfortunate events you're going to face. In school, along the sidewalks, while you are commuting going to school and even in your own home. Many heartbreaking and soul crushing event you're yet to witness. Don't even get me started with people.

Enjoy every moment of your youth. Enjoy playing outside with your cousins. Go swimming in the sea as many times as you want to. Play hide and seek as often as you'd like to. Eat mangoes as many as you could. Laugh as often as you could. Tell stories to your cousins and friends as many as you could. Enjoy it while you are still everyone's favorite. Because I'll tell you, you wouldn't do and experience these things anymore once you're a grown up. You're gonna miss doing these things. Never take your childhood for granted. Do not be in such a hurry to be an adult.

Do not be afraid to make mistakes. It's impossible to always do things right. That's how you learn things. It's okay to feel embarrassed. Some mistakes are still forgivable since you are still a child. Never take anything personally, especially when other people laugh at you for making mistakes. Humans make mistake. Don't think about it for so long. People move on and you should too. Never think that people are always thinking about you. Because, girl, I'll tell you. They don't. They're so busy thinking about themselves. So you should stop thinking about them, too.

Love your parents equally. Both of them are trying their best to make you feel loved. Never take the moments with them for granted. Respect them. Honor them. Be obedient to them. No parents are perfect. Do not be stubborn. Their shortcomings shouldn't give you any entitlement to disrespect them. Never.

As much as possible teach yourself to become less sensitive. As I've said, do not take things personally. Criticisms are vital part of being human, but it shouldn't get to your heart. It should only stay in your head. You should use them as a driving force to do better. Not to discourage or hinder you from doing the things that you love. How others treat you is a reflection of their character. It's not about you. It's just the way they are. It's how they treat everyone around them. Other people are born with a heart of gold. While others are just born. Despite how others treat you, always choose to be better, kinder and more understanding. Kid, I've got to tell you, the world is big. You're gonna encounter different types of people. You're gonna meet people whom you wouldn't be glad that your paths have crossed. But don't worry, there are still good people out there. They are some strangers you're gonna meet along the way. You're gonna wonder if they're angles that God sent for you. But whoever you meet, always be good. Another thing is I just want to remind you that your stubbornness won't get you anywhere. So please, be kind. Be kind to everyone you encounter. It doesn't matter how rude they are towards you. As much as possible, do not let your emotions get the best of you.

I know how you always wanted to see yourself as a strong and independent woman. I know that you always want to do things on your own. You don't want to seek any help, cause you always think that you can. Never stop doing that. Train yourself to be as independent as you could. Because time will come that you're gonna realize that all along its only been you. Do not wait for others to pick you up. Do not wait for others to cheer you up. Do not wait for others to appreciate what you do. Do not wait to get support from other people. Do not wait for others to be proud of you. Be your own bestfriend. Be your own superhero. Be your own cheerleader. Be yourself's best ally. Learn to stand up for yourself and what you believe.

Do not let yourself get attach to people. People change. People leave. You can't stop some things from happening. And when they do, you're gonna find it hard to move on. So if I were you, I wouldn't invest too much of my emotions on them. Learn how to enjoy your own company. Know that you create your own happiness. Everything and everyone in this world is temporary. Yourself is the longest relationship that you're gonna spend. So might as well invest on yourself more.

You're gonna encounter numerous rejections, disappointments and failures along the way. But just so you know, you're gonna make it through them. You're gonna learn a lot from them. They will serve as a proof of how strong and resilient you are. Prepare more boxes of tissue. You're gonna need them. Don't say I didn't warn you. Yeah. Never mind. You can cry in the shower. Or you can use your blanket to wipe away your tears, even your hands.

Please, no matter what age you may be in the future never lose the child in you. It will be one of the best armor you can use to face whatever challenges in your life. Never forget to be happy even with the small things. Never lose your smile. Believe in your dreams. Believe that one day you're gonna achieve them. Be like a child. See magic in everything.

You're gonna need a strong foundation to conquer the world and to face life. Never let any circumstances made you feel that you can't because you can. Remember what I told you about being a strong and independent woman? You should be that. And no matter how discouraged you're gonna feel, always seek God. He's the only one who's gonna help you get through anything. He's going to be your best friend. He's the only person you're gonna need. A lot of people is going to disappoint you, but God is always there for you. Even if you might feel hopeless at times, just talk to Him and have faith in Him. He will never abandon you. He's the very reason why you can get through anything life throws at you. He's the reason why you will be able to stand up despite many hardships.

So, good luck. You can do it. Your future self is rooting for you.

Love,

Your Present Self

au revoir. 😊
