Sat With Ree: Love In Moderation

Do you believe in saving something for special occasion? For example, you have a new shirt, but you don't want to wear it, yet, because you are still waiting for a perfect occasion where you could wear it.

I was the type of person back then, but I am not the same kind of person anymore. I saw this quote that goes like, "You don't have to save anything for special occasion. Because everyday is a special occasion." When I thought about it, I couldn't agree more.

I know a person who treasures things too much. For example, someone gave him a bag. He only use it occasionally. Only to find out one day that it had already been damaged inside his closet because it had been stored for so long. Another example is when someone gave him chocolate, he didn't want to eat it right away. Or he will eat it, but it will take days before he could finish that one bar. What's worse is when he kept it in a safe place (so that no one could eat it), then totally forgetting about it. Only remembering it again when it's about to expire or when it already did.

I used to think that he didn't want to use his most cherished belongings simply because he was waiting for a special occasion where he could finally use them. Until I realized that he never want to use them because they love them so much. And also because he love the person who gave them to him so much.

There's nothing wrong with taking care of things. Of course, we should take care of them for them to last long, but not to the extent that you don't enjoy them while you still can. Holding on to things too tight doesn't guarantee a lifelong possession of them. We are supposed to use and benefit from the things that we own and love the people around us. It's not the other way around. It shouldn't even be interchangeable.

We have to take care of things for them to last. But we should also be aware that things could change any moment. Life is happening. Life is truly unpredictable. The world keeps on revolving. Before we know it, we already run out of time to enjoy the things that we have. So might as well make the most out of everything. Do not wait for life to be perfect before you decide to be happy because it will never be that way.

Everyday may not be special, but life is uncertain. The more you hold on to things too tight, the less you'll enjoy them. You have to learn how to love in moderation. You have to find balance in everything.

au revoir.😊
