Sat With Ren: Respect Begets Respect

Do you agree when I say that you don't always agree with people? Especially when it comes to their thoughts, ideas and opinion.

Other people have different opinion from us. Our family and/or friends don't always agree with one another because we don't have the same perspective when it comes to seeing things. To simply put it we don't have the same mindset. What's admirable to us doesn't make it admirable to others, and vice versa. We have different taste when it comes to food. Some like Japanese food while others prefer Italian cuisine. Others like jazz music while some couldn't stand listening to it. Others prefer going out with company, but there are those who would rather go solo. Some would prefer living in the city while some would rather spend their days in an island. Other people's idea of success might be different from others. There are some who want to spend their free time at home reading their favorite book while others want to spend it with their friends partying outside. Others would rather choose tea over coffee. And that's okay.

Our differences in opinion is what make us unique. Imagine what would life be if everyone of us see things in the same way or we always agree with one another. Having different opinion from others shouldn't make us want to confront them to make them like what we like or to insist what we thought was right. Above all else, that shouldn't make us lose our respect or love to them. We are all entitled to share our own opinion. But at the end of the day, it's only an opinion. That doesn't make their or your opinion true. You don't have to feel guilty for preferring other things than what most people would choose.

Our differences in opinion give us a chance to asses ourselves. It gives us an opportunity to weigh things. We may not agree with other people's idea, but that shouldn't create conflict. Instead, it should open our mind and try to see things from a different perspective and think to ourselves perhaps other people were right. But that shouldn't get us blinded with the truth, because people only speak what they believe is true. They speak based on their point of view. Some people find it hard to separate what's real from not. They only want to see things the way they want to see them without minding whether it's the truth or not. So, we should be mindful on what to consider and what to disregard. We shouldn't let other people's opinion dictate our reality or force us into changing our preferences. More importantly it shouldn't dictate us how we're supposed to live our life.

Despite not seeing things the way others do, we have to always remember to respect each other's opinion. We should be more understanding and have an open mind. In the end, respect begets respect.

au revoir. 😊
