Sat With Ree: Life Ends

Life moves in mysterious ways. In the blink of an eye anything could happen.

Life is full of unexpected occurrences—good and bad. The person you are laughing with today is probably gone by tomorrow. Without even saying your goodbyes, you will only be awaken with the bad news, that the person you had a good laugh with last night is already gone, for good. Then it will hit you, death is real. People die. You didn't even get the chance to tell them how much they mean to you, or how they created such a big impact in your life. Because who would've thought that the last time that you talked, will already be the last time. Especially when your last conversation didn't even give you any indication that it will be the last.

Death is an inevitable part of life. We all know that we will all die one day, but it always come as a surprise to us when someone we know dies. Especially if that someone is so dear to us. It feels like a part of us also dies. We can't imagine living our life without them in it. We don't know how to do our normal daily routine without their presence. Losing someone you love could be so devastating. Even when we already saw it coming, it still sadden us. We wouldn't ever be prepared for how it would truly feel.

No one could really predict when our last time here on earth will be, or when our last time with someone will be. There are people who are battling with their illness for more than a year and is still fighting. Some were given the worst prognosis, yet up to this day surprisingly is still breathing and fighting to live. Whereas, there is someone you know who is healthy and without any medical condition, but then a news will come to you that they're dead. Without any warning or sign. In the blink of an eye.

Losing someone you love is definitely the toughest part of life. That's why while we have the chance, let us never waste time to show the people we love how much we care for them. We should not take their presence for granted. There will be times when they could be so difficult to understand, but in the end let us always choose to be patient with them. Let us always value the time that we spend with our loved ones.

May we always choose to be kinder and more understanding with people, especially to those who are important to us. Not because we know that they'll be gone soon, but for in the end we wouldn't have any regret that we didn't do enough for them while we still could. In the end, regrets will simply be regrets. It wouldn't change anything no matter how much we try to. Once the person is gone even if we cry until we die, we couldn't take their life back. While we can still show them how much their presence matter to us, let us appreciate them.

Life isn't short. It's just that we tend to take this life for granted thinking that we always have tomorrow. We wait for Christmas to give someone the thing we know they've been meaning to receive even though we can give it to them now. The worst is, sometimes we wait for someone's funeral to tell them the things that they're supposed to hear while they were still alive. Isn't is more appropriate to say it to them while we could still see how they would react? Or do we really need to lose someone first for us to realize their importance in our life?

Life is not infinite.

Life is truly unpredictable.

Death is sudden. We will all die. And we have no control over it.

“Mama always said, dying was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn’t.”
