Sat With Ree: LANY Malibu Nights World Tour
Pre-pandemic ano yong isang bagay na miss mo na gawin?
Ako? Isa sa pinaka namimiss ko na gawin bago mag pandemic bukod sa i-date yong sarili ko eh ang panunuod ng concert. Kasi parang nagsisimula pa lang akong ma-hook sa panunuod ng mga concert tapos biglang naputol kaagad. Bakit?
Ayon na nga....Last July 23, 2019 I had the chance to watch LANY live in concert for the second time. And as a promise to myself I want to be closer this time. You might want to read about my first LANY concert experience.
Just like their concert in 2018 I once again had a hard time scoring a ticket. Dati nahirapan ako makabili ng ticket kasi malayo yong bilihan. But this time nahirapan ako kasi inunder-estimate ko yong popularity nila. Sorry na. Malay ko ba. 😔
First day nong ticket selling nila hindi pa ako ganon kapursigido na makabili. Sabi ko hindi pa naman siguro kaagad mauubos. But when I checked my Twitter nagulat ako. Ang sabi almost sold-out na daw yong ticket eh ang aga pa noon. Siguro after ilang minutes pa lang nong mag-start yong selling pa-sold-out na kaagad. May iba kasi na madaling-araw pa lang nag-aabang na sa labas ng mall para maunang makabili. Pero kahit ganoon medyo kampante pa din ako na makakabili ako. Inunder-estimate ko nga diba. So ayon na nga...pagdating ko ng mall wala pa atang 5 minutes akong nakakarating sold-out na nga daw yong ticket. Medyo hesitant pa nga ako makipila non kasi ang haba ng pila hindi ako makapaniwala na para yon sa mga ticket buyers ng LANY concert kaya tinanong ko pa yong guard. Tama naman yong pinilahan ko. Unfortunately, hindi ako nakaabot sa ticket. Pero hindi pa din ako masyado nag worry non kasi sabi ko baka magka second night ulit just like their concert in 2018. That night inannounce nga na magkakaroon daw ng second night. Kaya naman nabuhayan ulit yong diwa ko. Again.....I underestimated them for the second time. Kasi sabi ko second night na naman yon so for sure makakabili na ako ng ticket. Medyo kampante si ate girl. Ganern. Pagkadating ko ng mall may ipinamigay na number pero hindi na ako nakaabot. Tapos ang haba na ulit ng pila. Maya-maya nag set-up na ng mga upuan para sa mga nakapila. If it were today magagalit ang DOH kasi walang social distancing. Tapos para kaming mga nakapila sa pagkuha ng ayuda. Ang malala sa lahat nag-la-lag yong system dahil sa dami ng bumibili. After ilang minutes lang siguro nong mag-start yong ticket selling ang sabi sold-out na daw ulit yong ibang section. So medyo on the verge of crying na si ate girl kasi paano na? Hanggang sa nag-uwian na yong iba kasi nga almost sold-out na yong ticket tapos VIP na lang yong natitira pero limited na lang din. Pero hindi pa kaagad ako umalis kasi umasa ako na maghihimala. Tapos yong mga kasabay kong estudyante they were very much willing to spend all the money in their wallet to purchase the VIP section ticket and there I was........ Hindi pa noon uso ang "sana all" kaya hindi ko siya nasabi. Pero kung uso na noon....naku, naku. At hindi nga ulit ako nakabili ng ticket on my second attempt. And in that moment...umiyak talaga ako. Kasi......syempre gustung-gusto ko panuodin ang LANY. Tapos biglang naubusan ng ticket tapos hopeless naman ako na magka third night kasi for the third time inunder-estimate ko na naman sila. Sorry na. 😔
Fortunately, God has another plan, a best one—as always. There's going to be a third night. At yong supposedly pang third night iyon pa yong naging first night tapos yong first night yong na-adjust. Ang saya diba? This time ticket buyers need to go to MOA just to purchase the tickets but they need to make an online reservation. Kasi ibang sistema yong ginawa nila sa ticket selling para iwas scalpers. Syempre naka score ako ng ticket for my third attempt. Third time is definitely a charm.
First time ko makanuod ng concert sa MOA Arena kaya namangha ako sa venue. Medyo maaga pa noong dumating kami doon kaya abangers muna. Tapos may nag front act pa na international artist din. Si Mabel. Naaliw naman ako sa pagkanta niya tapos may kasama din kasi siyang dancer kaya na-entertain din naman ako. Mahuhusay silang mag-perform. Medyo matagal din yong performance nila ha. Siguro inabot din yon ng 30-45 minutes.
After they finished their performance ilang minutes pa bago nag start yong sa LANY. Eto na naman tayo sa bawat taong umaakayat ng stage na mag-se-set-up lang naman eh magtitilian kagaad kasi akala namin start na ng show. At tsaka tuwing papatayin yong ilaw at ang matitira na lang ay yong spot light. Nakakamis yong ganong klase ng excitement. Sana maulit muli.
Finally....after two times na nabigo sa pagbili ng ticket, isang beses na umiyak, at sinadya pa ang MOA para makabili ng ticket (ang aga ko gumising non ha para lang makaalis din ng maaga) eto na si PJK. It was all worth it. Charing. 😆 Eto na naman siya sa kaniyang patalon talon. Yong tipong abang na abang ako sa paglabas niya pero nagulat pa din ako at grabe pa din yon tili ko.
First song nila was 'Thick and Thin.' Syempre I was singing at the top of my lungs because it was one of my favorites that time plus the fact na syempre excited. Tapos sunod nilang kanta was 'Good Girls.' And then they sang one of my favorite songs of them— '4ever.' Kung nong first concert nila hindi ako nakasabay kasi hindi ko alam yong kanta this time sinigurado ko na alam ko na yong lyrics kasi sobrang ganda nong kanta especially when they performed it live. Again...birit kung birit. That was one of the songs that I looked forward to see them performing. Kasi nga ang ganda pakinggan sa MP3 eh di lalo na sa live. Ang sarap kantahin with all my might. Charing. 😂

Then they sang 'yea, babe, no way.' Aliw na aliw ako panuodin sila kasi unlike nong first time ko sila napanuod this time I was closer so hindi ko na pinipilit maaninag yong mukha ni Paul Klein. Kasi bukod sa medyo malapit na ako eh may big screen pa don sa tabi namin kaya kitang-kita yong pawis ni Paul Klein. As in.... Yong pawis niya sa ulo don sa buhok niya kasi maikli pa buhok niya noon. Diba nagpakalbo siya so medyo tumutubo pa lang yong buhok niya kaya kitang-kita yong pawis niya. Tsaka yong bracelet niya na color pink na parang pambata. Kung may anak siya iisipin ko na sa anak niya yon. Plus yong mga dance steps niya na nakakaaliw.
This was also one of the songs that I looked forward watching them perform live—'I Don't Wanna Love You Anymore.' Diba? Title pa lang kasi....😄
Then they performed 'Taking Me Back' followed by 'Made In Hollywood' and then 'Hurts.' During their concert in 2018 I wasn't able to join the crowd singing 'Hurts' because I didn't know the song. So after the concert I listened to it countless times because I loved it when they sang it live. So this time I was able to join the "choir" into singing or rather shouting "The more you love, the more it hurts." And it really 'Hurts.' Charaught. 😝
After that they sang 'Run' then '13.' They again made a makeshift stage on the other side of the real stage and they moved there when they performed '13.' Unlike in 2018 this time I was able to see them moving from one stage to the other stage—the makeshift. This time I really see them and I wasn't blinded by the spotlight.
When they returned to the original stage Paul introduced his band mates plus konting chika. (I can't post the video. I don't know why.😔) I was waiting for this nong 2018 concert nila kasi noon puro kanta lang talaga tapos chika lang ng 5 seconds tapos kakanta na ulit. Ngayon medyo naglaan siya ng time na chumika ng saglit at ipakilala yong band mates niya. May plus one sila, si Juliano, guitarist din siya. Si Juliano na chill na chill habang naggigitara nong kinakanta yong '13.'
After that back to business na ulit. They sang 'If You See Her' then 'The Breakup' followed by 'Pink Skies.' I think 'Pink Skies' was one of their most popular songs that almost all the audience know the song. And I also know it this time not just the "pink skies" lyrics 'cause I also played and listened to it countless times. Then they sang 'Hericane' and Paul was emotional again. Then 'Super Far.' And after that was 'Malibu Nights.' Their performance of 'Malibu Nights' was for me magical and it felt like very intimate eventhough there were thousands of people there. It was my most favorite performance of them that night. The moment was very surreal.
'Through This Tears' was their next performance. This is also one of my favorites and most anticipated. I looked forward in joining them singing
"Every day I let go just a little bit more
In the end, I'm gonna be alright
But it might take a hundred sleepless nights
To make the memories of you disappear
But right now, I can't see nothing through these tears"

I swear I tried to stop myself from joining the crowd in singing so that I could take a good video but I got carried away. Sorry....spur of the moment. Nakakadala kasi yong audience. (Sinisi pa yong iba.)
But honestly, I really waited for that confetti moment. Because during their concert in 2018 it was my favorite part so I've anticipated that kind of moment to happen again. It was really an amazing kind of experience. The feeling was incomparable. It was truly exhilarating. I live for that kind of moment.
They ended the concert with a final message while giving us a preview of their upcoming album that was flashing on the big screen. Then the band members were gathered on the center of the stage to take their final vow.
"MANILA WE'RE COMING BACK FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. MAHAL KO KAYO SOBRA. MAHAL KO KAYO SOBRA."
