Sat With Ree: What If Social Media Didn't Exist

What if social media didn't exist? Are you still going to book that trip even though you know you don't have to take an aesthetic photo of the place? Because where are you going to post those? Remember, there's no social media.

There is no doubt how social media is continuously affecting the life of most people. If social media wasn't a thing, life is probably a lot simpler.

People would have less comparison when it comes to who has more or has less. There would be no platform to post anyone's issues and insecurities. No place for anyone to post their achievements and accomplishments. There would be no basis when it comes to who has more likers and who has none.

If social media didn't exist, life would be more peaceful. There would be less hate or drama because there would be no avenue to share mean comments, unsolicited advice or unwanted opinion. People will be more considerate when it comes to giving feedback to others because there would be no room for them to hide using fake accounts.

People would have less time to judge others. There would be fewer source of negativity. Gossip would spread less. There would be less source of fake news.

Perhaps people will be more real with their emotions. There would be no room for fake empaths. There would be no avenue for people to post their grief when the classmate of their neighbor's neighbor dies. There would be no fake congratulatory message to share online when someone achieved something.

People would have minimal chance to buy the things that they don't really need. There would be no space for them to share their newly acquired something. There would be no place for others to show that they stayed in a luxurious hotel during the weekend. People won't think that other people have a perfect life. Others don't have to pretend that their life is perfect. No social media to update your what and whereabouts. There's no one you would feel the need to impress except the people you get to see everyday.

There would be no instant celebrities, like when someone posted a video doing something extraordinary. With the presence of social media the video goes viral, and just like that he's already famous in every part of the world.

There would be no space for people to share how miserable their life is. There would be a lower chance for people to get stress over something that has no significance in their life. People won't have to feel like they need to be a part of every issue that they see in their news feed. Even though in reality, they don't know a thing about it.

Just like the old days, people will have a more personal interactions. People will engage in a face to face conversation. There would be less distractions when conversing to someone personally. People will have no other choice, but to mingle with the people in front of them.

People will be true with their intentions when it comes to lending a hand to the needy, since with the absence of social media no need to photograph yourself giving alms to the beggar. Unless, you're planning to publish it in a newspaper.

People would be less conscious with their appearance for there would be no place to post selfies. Perhaps body shaming won't be easy to throw to others. People won't be force to change their image for the sake of wanting to appear perfect on their social media. People will focus on what's real since there would be no filter available. Everything will be as real as it gets.

I guess people will be more present in the moment instead of busying themselves documenting everything that is happening in their life, so that they have something to update their social media. We would appreciate and cherish every significant moment in our life.

People won't feel the need to rush since there's a lesser chance to compare someone's progress to others. Perhaps people would be more patient with things, with their self and with their progress.

People will get to discover what their true passion is. Not through influence of other people they see online.

Most importantly, people won't get easily annoyed or exasperated when the internet is working slow.

We have all different takes when it comes to how we see the presence of social media. There are a lot of disadvantages, but of course there are also advantages. It's up to you how you use social media effectively. In the end, it's all about balance.

Without social media, our lives would be completely different. There would be no place to share memes, no instant updates from someone's what and whereabouts, no avenue to share someone's talent/s, and a lot other things that only social media could provide.

Social media created a space for people to speak their mind. I don't know whether it's a good or a bad thing. It serves as an avenue for people to share their issues with others that they're not willing to confront personally. The receiving end will only have to guess if someone's post is about him/her. But if the shoe fits.... ๐Ÿ˜†

au revoir.๐Ÿ˜Š
