Sat With Ree: Is It Your Heart Or Is It Your Mind?

In a battle between your heart and your mind, where do you usually listen? In your mind that says, "try again, who knows maybe this time," or in your heart that whispers, "enough, I've already felt too much." Sometimes what we want and what we're supposed to do are two entirely different things. That's usually when the war between our heart and our mind begin.

Personally, I always listen to my heart when it comes to making an important decision in my life. I don't know how to justify this, but maybe it's part of being an overthinker. I know it sounds ironic, but I just thought it is. When it comes to making a not so important decision in my life, I listen to my mind, like when I need to decide what I'm going to wear in a certain occasion. But in terms of choosing a place to eat, of course I always tend to follow my heart. Because a happy tummy leads to a happy heart. Yeah, whatever. ๐Ÿ˜

I think those who always use their brain to make an important decision in their life have a stronger personality. They choose what is more practical even if they don't feel comfortable with it. They don't mind whether or not they'll be happy with the result of their choices just as long as they think that it's the right thing to do. There are also times when people just do whatever makes them happy without even realizing that they are already hurting other people. Because they don't consider what their heart says, and they only follow the voice inside their head.

Your mind can trick you into something, but your heart never lie. There comes a time in your life when you get to a point of denial. Your heart already know the answer to your question, but your brain won't accept it. And then you continue on searching for something that could somehow lead to a different answer—the answer that you want to hear even if you know that it's not the right thing to do. Sometimes people seek advice from other people not for some enlightenment, but because they just want someone to agree with them even though they already know that they are wrong.

Our mind and our heart are both vital when it comes to decision-making. Not only in decision-making though, but in every aspect of our life. Sometimes we have to use our brain, and sometimes we have to follow the beating of our heart. You are lucky if your mind agrees with your heart, or vice-versa. Because most of the time they have different opinions, in which both prove a very good point, anyway. That's why you have to weigh who provides the best solution to your problem.

In a battle between your heart and your mind, always choose the one that leads you to do what is necessary not what is convenient. Never choose something out of selfishness. In every choice or decision that you make, you have to consider whether or not you're affecting someone. If that's the case, always remember to choose the right thing to do even if it means sacrificing your own happiness. It's important to consider your own feelings, but it's also important to never disregard other people's feelings.

We don't always get to pick the right choices in life. Sometimes we won't know it right away whether we make the right or wrong choice. But at the end of the day when you can peacefully sleep at night and your heart is at peace, that's when you knew that you are on the right path. You made the right choice.
